Burke and McRaney met in the 1980s while they were both working on different television shows. Burke was working on her sitcom Designing Women when she guest starred on Simon & Simon, the show that her husband-to-be starred on.

It was love at first sight for McRaney and he knew he had to act fast considering the followers that this beautiful young actress had.

“I wasn’t going to let her get away,” McRaney, now 70, explained. “I already had competition. There were people asking her out on dates, and I was going to move in right away.”

I was shocked to find out that McRaney asked Burke to marry him on their second date. Soon after, the two were spotted on the red carpet for the 1987 Emmy Awards looking blissfully happy. The couple got married just two years later, in 1989.

For almost 30 years, the couple has been there for each other through it all. One of the biggest struggles has been coping with Burke’s fluctuating weight, due to her Type II Diabetes and battles with depression.

Burke credits the endless support of her husband, who she thanks for helping her “bounce back.”

“He reminds me what I should be doing or shouldn’t be eating,” She told People. “He likes to give me my insulin shots and says it makes him feel like he’s taking care of me.”

Now, McRaney is back in action in the hit show, This is Us which has won him a Primetime Emmy for his role as Dr. K.

Speaking after he received his award McRaney spoke of his wonderful union, “As a man, I’ve had the love of the finest woman I could possibly imagine,” McRaney told reporters.

In a world of seemingly endless famous relationship dramas, I find this these two a breath of fresh air.

I hope you find this couple as inspiring as I do. Please share this heartwarming tale with your friends and family.
