Haven is currently involved with the Junior Reserve Office Training Corps. One day he aims to join the military, so that he can – in his words – be “a part of something bigger than myself and to serve my country.”
Sadly, the teen has been in DHS for the past five years, and his dream of being adopted into a family to truly call his own is beginning to look more and more hopeless with each passing day.
At the moment, Haven lives in a shelter along with four other children. His situation is limited and, though he’s safe and has a bed to sleep in each night, he’s naturally frustrated. “It gets old at times,” he told Oklahoma News 4, “just being there. Not being able to go out whenever I want.”
Speaking on his future, he said: “I’d probably like to travel the world, which the army helps with that.”
All he wants is a family to love him, and the nurturing environment so many of us are blessed with.
Haven turns 18 in October, and is aiming to find an adoptive family before that.
“You can have someone to help you,” he explained, “to be there for you if you need help. Not just going into it blind and stuff.”
When asked what sort of family he’s looking for, he simply replied: “Anyone that would take me.
“I don’t really care, as long as it’s a family that would show love for me and be there for me.”
