A nurse is the latest frontline healthcare worker to lose her life to this horrific virus as her heartbroken husband says this wouldn’t have happened if she’d been given a mask.
David DiCenso says his wife spent long shifts treating patients with COVID-19 without a mask.
Danielle DiCenso, 33, from Florida, showed symptoms of coronavirus two weeks after helping to treat patients with the virus, work that her husband says was done without a protective mask.
After Danielle complained of a high fever and cough, she was tested but the results came back inconclusive. She still self-isolated but her condition got worse.
Her husband found her dead in her living room. Now her heartbroken husband claims his wife, whose death has left their 4-year-old son without a mother, wasn’t given the right equipment.
“She always puts people first before her,” her husband told WTCJ. “She showed up for work one day and they didn’t have a mask for her.
“It really broke her heart that she couldn’t perform her job at a place she felt safe at,″ he added.
“She had lots and lots of text messages between her and coworkers saying they were not properly equipped.
“I know for a fact that my wife would still be here right now if she was given the proper protective equipment.
“The people on the front lines, these are our modern-day infantry.”
In an email sent to the Daily Mail newspaper requested in response to the issue of protective equipment, a Palmetto General Hospital spokesperson said: “Nurses are provided appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. We are very focused on minimizing staff exposures in our hospital.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Danielle’s sister Ashley Kuchciak to raise money for funeral costs and a college fund for her son.
“She is someone who has touched the lives of thousands and will never be forgotten. Her husband, and son could use all the support during this time in their life,” she wrote.
Such a tragedy, all of our healthcare workers are putting their own lives at risk to help others and we need to do all we can to protect them.
