Judge makes decision on adoption case when toddler shouts one word that reduces everyone to tears

Mandi and Tyler Palmer, from Perrysburg, had always dreamed of becoming parents. They got married in 2014 but were unable to conceive as Mandi suffers with Crohn’s disease.

However, the desire for children was so great that the couple began to look at adoption and fostering.

“We were scared. We kind of danced around the idea for a little bit. Then we prayed on it, and we just felt like God pushed us to do it,” Mandi said according to PEOPLE.

Mandi and Tyler registered as foster parents  and in that same week they got the call to take in a baby.

Had the chance to adopt the boy

Hunter was just 8 days old when he was given to Mandi and Tyler and the couple went through the “roller coaster ride of foster care” for a year.

When Hunter was 16 months old, they were given the chance to adopt him and jumped at the chance to officially make him their son.

On Dec. 18, 2017, the couple went to a local courthouse to sign the adoption paperwork.

“It was very emotional, in a good way,” said Mandi according to NDT.

“We had all of our family and friends there. At the end of the court process, the judge announced [Hunter’s] new legal name. And they read the adoption decree and that’s when Hunter looked at my husband and he shouted out, ‘Dad!'”
