As dicephalic parapagus twins, Abby and Brittany have shared a single body for 27 years. It is extremely unusual for twins to share the same body, but have two separate heads. In rare cases like these, it is best for doctors not to separate the twins, unless one of them is clearly dying.
Abby and Brittany have certainly fascinated the entire world. Born in Minnesota in 1990, their birth followed a similar case from the latter part of the 19th century that had also amazed doctors everywhere.
The Tocci brothers
Italian dicephalic parapagus twins Giacomo and Giovanni Battista Tocci also survived well into adulthood. However, according to researchers, it is difficult to determine how old they were; while some reports say they lived to be about 65 years, others that they died considerably earlier. They married two wives.
It’s believed that only about 11 percent of all siamese twins are born like Abby and Brittany, with one body and two heads.
Abby and Brittany each have their own internal organs, i.e. together, they have two hearts, four lungs and two stomachs.
Of course, the twins have grown up with unique challenges, but despite these, they have managed so much! They studied education and graduated from university together and have even have a driving license!
Upon graduating from Bethel University, the twins decided they wanted to become teachers. They now specialize in mathematics, according to AWM. They say they think their unique qualities can make children more focused in classrooms, and remind students that looks are of no significant importance.
The twins have recently begun teaching at a municipal school located about one hour from their home — and according to the school principal, they are already well-liked by the children.
However, the twins had not always agreed on their future careers. Their mother Patty explains:
“When they were five, I remember one wanted to be a pilot and one wanted to be a dentist. That was short-lived,” she told to AWM.
After spending a lot of time in the spotlight in their young years, today the girls prefer to keep a low profile, according to In Touch Weekly.
