On Tuesday evening, the royal couple attended Queen Elizabeth’s annual Diplomatic Reception. It was there that Kate was pictured wearing Diana’s favorite tiara, reports E! Online.

Kate also had a stunning up-do on the night.

Here’s a beautiful picture of Diana wearing the tiara in 1983.

This is the third time that Kate picked the tiara for a function – she has also worn it to events in 2016 and 2015.

The tiara was first given to Queen Mary around 1913/1914, and when she died in 1953 it was passed down to Elizabeth II. From 1981 it was worn by Diana.

It’s not just this beautiful tiara that Kate has inherited from her mother-in-law. The picture below shows a pearl necklance that has been passed down from Queen Elizabeth to Diana and finally to Kate.

But of course, Diana didn’t always wear royal jewels. More often than not she looked like this: the people’s princess who spent her time doing charity work around the world.

Just like Kate.
