Update: 5-year-old girl returns home after being shot in the head in crossfire

The reason someone opened fire on the home the five-year-old girl was visiting is still under investigation. A bullet hit Kemiyah in the temple.

Local reports at the time said her grandmother, on realizing what had happened, bundled her “into a car and stopped for help at the Oak Hill Shopping Plaza a few blocks away.”

Now, a few seconds of grainy cell phone video shows the moment that Kemiyah walks herself out of the hospital.

After spending weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at VCU Medical Center on a ventilator and in a coma, Kemiyah’s family says that their little girl’s physical mobility and spunky personality have finally made a return.

A fundraising page has been set up on Facebook, that has already raised almost $3,000 to help support Kemiyah’s healthcare.

“We are so thankful for all the donations, gifts cards and support that she already has received,” Reckalynn Harris wrote. “Please continue to pray for her.”

See the few seconds of Kemiyah walking all by herself in the clip below. It’s such a joyous occasion!

What happened to this child is incomprehensible but thanks to the support of her family, friends and the public, not forgetting the medical staff that have treated her, she will recover.

I hope they catch the people responsible and ensure they can never do anything like this again. Please SHARE.
