When 104-year-old Ada Zanusso tested positive for COVID-19 after showing symptoms at her nursing home in Italy she was already very sick.
It was 8 days after Italy imposed strict lock-down measures after a steep rise in the number of people contracting the potentially deadly virus; Italy was the first European country to impose such measures.
Ada, who survived the 1918 Spanish Flu, was vomiting, had a fever and was struggling to breathe on March 17.
Now an image has been released of the sprightly grandmother with doctors celebrating her recovery.
Carla Furno Marchese, Ada’s doctor, said: “She is up and about and not lying in bed and she can walk to her chair.
“She has lost none of her lucidity and intelligence. Her recovery is a great joy for us and a sign of good hope for all that are suffering in these difficult days,” he added, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Her son Giampiero told The Sun: “I suspected it was coronavirus because of the number of cases at the care home. They have sadly had a few fatalities there.”
‘Don’t let your guard down’
Italy could be the first European country to ease social restrictions after the number of reported deaths from the virus declined 23 percent from the 681 deaths reported on April 4, the Daily Mail reports.
While warning Italians not to let their guard down a plan to re-open businesses in stages while keeping social distancing measures in place was announced by the Italian Government.
The Government also intends to secure tens of thousands of certified blood test kits to see how many people have developed antibodies for the disease while more coronavirus-specific hospitals are set to be built.
This gives us all hope, not just surrounding the virus itself but what strict lock down measures can achieve if we all stick to the plan.
We’re so happy for you Ada! Please share.
