We all know how strong a dog’s sense of smell is but for one cute dog it’s her main sense and one that she has to solely rely on every day.
Opal is a beautiful 8-month-old Double Merle but she ended up in an animal shelter waiting for someone to pick her to take home. Unfortunately. Opal isn’t like every other cute perfect puppy waiting to be adopted. She is blind and deaf and not many people want to take on a dog with disabilities.
Thankfully, Christine Bray and her husband Forrest could see that this Double Merle puppy was special in more ways than one.
Opal’s breed is more susceptible to deafness and blindness due to their genetic make up. But, despite her disabilities, her sense of smell makes up for it.
When her doggy dad Forrest comes home from work, she can sense that he’s just around the corner, minutes before he arrives!
Opal has her own Instagram page, where her loving doggy mom Christine announced:
“She waits in the front yard and waits to either feel or smell his car idk how she can tell the difference because neighbor cars pull up and she doesn’t care. She then smells him and goes crazy. It’s very sweet!!”
Christine loves this moment so much she joins Opal most days just to see the precious moment. Thankfully she recorded it so we can all see this very special time of day for one sweet dog.
In the video when Opal senses her daddy is near Christine says:
“This is my favorite part of the day. Yup. See, she knows.”
The excitement and sheer joy that Opal expresses knowing her doggy dad is home is so amazing to watch.
When nobody else would take on this sweet dog this awesome couple knew that she was something special and the love they are now getting in return should leave them in no doubt that this special four-legged friend is a keeper for life.
