Dog is abandoned and lives in wet shoebox, her kind rescuers pick her up and realize why

It is difficult to determine an exact number, but there are millions of homeless animals in the United States.

Fortunately, the number of homeless and neglected animals is decreasing, due to a greater awareness of these animals and an increase in popularity of adoption over buying pets.

A little brown Chihuahua mix showed up near a family’s home and was lost, scared, and weak. Cold and wet, she sought shelter in a damp shoebox — it wasn’t much, and certainly not a warm, comfortable bed, but it was the best that the poor little pup could find.

The homeowners fed her, but they didn’t do anything else to care for the pitiful abandoned dog.

A rescue

Fortunately, someone reported the little dog’s whereabouts to a local animal rescue and Hope for Paws stepped in to help.

Hope for Paws’ mission statement:

“Hope for Paws is a 501 C-3 non-profit animal rescue organization (E.I.N: 26-2869386). We rescue dogs and all other animals who are suffering on the streets and in the shelters. Our goal is to educate people on the importance of companion animals in our society.”

Hope for Paws founder Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte took their “lucky leash” to the home, hoping that the poor thing would be easy to catch and willing to come to safety with them. They arrived at the dog’s location and found her curled up her shoebox, trying to shelter herself from the rain.

They approached her carefully, but the weak, frightened little dog allowed them to come close. When they removed her from her makeshift “shelter” they noticed that one of her legs is missing.

A second chance

Her rescuers got started right away on giving the chihuahua, who they named “Princess” a second chance at a happy life. They gave her a warm bath and took her to a veterinarian.

The vet found that Princess was suffering from a serious case of anemia. She required hospitalization for multiple weeks so that she could receive intensive treatment.

Sweet little Princess recovered fully and is now up for adoption, waiting for her “furever” home!
