For hundreds of years man has used horses and donkeys to carry our heavy loads, but they’re not always treated well for their services.
If these animals are being used to do our heavy work they must be treated well, given the chance to rest and eat when needed.
Sadly, this isn’t always the case. Residents in a Chile city rushed to the aid of a donkey who had collapsed under a load too heavy for it to bear.
It was left to struggle alone and if strangers hadn’t helped, it could have been left to die alone.
Valparaíso, Chile, is known for its steep pathways so it makes sense to use strong animals to carry heavy loads.
But one owner had loaded its donkey with a weight so heavy it collapsed in a street in El Liter.

Residents in the area had reported seeing the donkey carrying excessive loads up steep hills on a daily basis.
A picture of the poor animal collapsed on its back was posted on social media and quickly went viral.
The image even reached the governor of Valparaíso Maria de los Angeles de la Paz who said “it seems an absolutely condemnable act of animal abuse.”
An appeal was made to residents in the area for information concerning the owner.

The lack of respect for this poor animal is shocking; we must always speak out when we see an animal being badly treated.
