Matheus and Marilia were preparing for their big day when they would become husband and wife. They live in São Paulo, Brazil, and had been hoping for a beautiful outdoor wedding but the weather had other ideas.
A storm was coming in that day so the couple decided to move their celebration indoors and everyone hoped they would stay dry. The storm did roll in and with it came a stray dog who tried to take shelter during the ceremony.
Little did the couple know the effect that muddy pup would have on their lives.
“As the ceremony started, to everyone’s surprise, it was the dog who came in when the bridal chorus began to play,” Marília told The Dodo.
The muddy, wet dog was promptly evicted from the ceremony and the nuptials continued but this dog wasn’t taking no for an answer.
“The dog entered and laid down to sleep on my veil,” Marília said.
It was clear this dog was there to stay and nobody wanted to put him out in the storm for a second time — especially not Marília.
“It was a very pleasant surprise for me, because I love animals,” Marilia said. “I liked it very much.”
The wandering hound was allowed to stay for the rest of the evening and when the celebration came to a close the couple looked for their new four-legged friend. But, it seemed that he had slipped away when the rain stopped.
That night, Marília and Matheus talked about wanting to take the dog in and save him from a life on the street.
“We decided to adopt him because he is a street dog,” Marília said. “It took us a long time to find him again, but yesterday, we were contacted and told his whereabouts.”
The couple were reunited with their wedding crasher, whom they’ve named Snoop: “He came home, and I showered him,” Marília said. “He played a lot, ate, drank water. He is very happy and slept super good the first night.”
Who would have thought that this street dog who crashed a wedding would end up with such a loving home and making two newly weds so very happy.
“We’re all very happy,” confirmed Marilia.
Snoop will always be that extra special memory of this couple’s wedding day. Thank goodness for this big-hearted couple who took a dog off the street and gave it a loving home.
