All parents know that as much as we love our children they can test every ounce of patience we possess.
I look with sympathy and a knowing smile at any parent who is dealing with a child that has a tantrum in public — we’ve all been there.
But in the moment it can be incredibly stressful and you often feel helpless, embarrassed and frustrated as you try and negotiate with your toddler.
Meanwhile, it feels like everyone is watching you and passing judgement. When your child finally calms down, you are completely exhausted and just want to go home.
With the whole store watching you as you negotiate your emotional child, not everyone is going to understand. But if one person offers a helping hand or a kind word, it can make all the difference.
A perfect example of this is a wonderful lady called Liliana, who works at Target, in Wilmington, USA.
Brianna Lelos was shopping in the store with her toddler daughter, who was not particularly happy about the shopping trip and decided to have a meltdown — in the middle of the store.
Her toddler’s unhappiness escalated into lying on the floor and screaming, much to her mom’s frustration.
Instead of just standing and watching, Liliana thought she would try to make it easier for the stressed mother.

She went and sat next to the screaming child on the floor and waited with her until she had calmed down and was ready to return to her mother again.
Brianna was so impressed and pleased with Liliana’s help that she chose to share the event on Twitter. There she also praised Target for having such good and understanding staff.
To Liliana of the Wilmington, MA @Target store: Thankyou. I *think* every parents knows the feeling of their toddler/any age child having a tantrum in the middle of the store…… @Target thank-you for having kind, caring, humans working at your stores. It’s appreciated. pic.twitter.com/LS4LqEIaU0

Taking care of a child who is having a tantrum is never easy and most parents’ worst nightmare.
Next time you see someone in a similar situation. Instead of shaking your head and looking away, show some compassion and offer a helping hand if it’s needed.
