Songs from our childhood always stir up emotional memories, especially if they were sung to us by our parents and grandparents.
But Mike Brook used to sing a song to his children that he had written himself, inspired by very special stories.
On Christmas Eve he got the shock of his life when his granddaughter showed off her talents and performed the very song for him.
His response has touched the hearts of thousands, it’s so moving.
Mike Brook, now 69, had wanted to join the U.S. Army when he was 21 years old. But old football injuries and hearing loss in one ear prevented him from being able to enlist.
He was moved by the stories he heard of veterans who had served in Vietnam and was so inspired by one man’s story he turned it into a song.

His children passed down the song to their kids and it remained a family favorite.
On Christmas Eve Mike’s granddaughter Karli Willett told her much-loved grandpa she had a special surprise for him.
The aspiring singer songwriter had made a recording of herself performing her grandpa’s song.
To see his reaction to the song is a real tear-jerker. He’s so overcome with emotion at hearing his granddaughter sing such a cherished song.
