It was a routine check up for 73-year-old Francisco Sanchez when he was kept in overnight at his local hospital so doctors could run tests.
He was expected to be sent home the following day but 7 hours later his family received a call that their father was in a critical condition.
Francisco had been found on the hospital floor bleeding to death, the man he was sharing a room with had beaten him so badly he had suffered extensive bleeding throughout his brain. One week later he died.
Police have arrested a 37-year-old man.
Police in Long Beach, California, say Francisco Sanchez-Reyes was brutally beaten for unknown reasons, as reported by Fox 11 News.
Francisco had been admitted to hospital because he had a urinary tract infection and was kept in overnight so doctors could run tests to check if he had any ulcers.
In a GoFundMe page set up by his son Ramon Sanchez to help raise money to cover expenses related to this brutal attack, Ramon said: “Our hearts are broken as he left us unexpectedly.
“He ended up in a coma the next day they basically said that our dad had multiple and extensive bleeding throughout his brain and they couldn’t save him, so a week later he passed away!
“He was my first teacher, coach, and mentor, he came here from Mexico to give us more opportunity and a better life. He was the one that taught me about work ethic, respect and being a good human being. Love for God and to get along with others.”

Our thoughts are with you. Rest in Peace Francisco Sanchez.
