Whoopi Goldberg reveals the mystery illness that left her close to death and off our screens for a month

Whoopi revealed to her fans that she spent three weeks in hospital suffering with pneumonia and sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition caused by the body’s response to an infection.

Thankfully she is recovering well and dropped by TV show “The View” last week to see her co-hosts and explain just how sick she has been.

Before she was reunited with her co-hosts she made a video message for fans where she revealed she’d almost died from her illness.

“I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news, I didn’t. Thank you for all of your good wishes,” she added.

In her appearance on “The View” she admitted she’d been overdoing it.

“You think you can push through because you got a little cold, you say, ‘I’m just gonna keep going, keep going.’ And you think because you’ve healed quick before, that something crazy can’t happen. Well, it can,” Whoopi said.

“I had double pneumonia and sepsis … And so they had to pump a lot of stuff out of me. This is a cautionary tale for all of us. You must really take care of yourself, because there is little tiny stuff out there that will kill you that you never think of.”

Whoopi told her co-hosts on “The View” that this was her first real trip out since her illness and that she wasn’t completely recovered.

“The only way it’s going to get better is if I begin, so this is my beginning,” she added.
