Hollywood actress and comedienne Whoopi Goldberg confirms the rumors are true

Whoopi Goldberg was interviewed on Good Morning Britain for a chat about her upcoming U.K. tour, her eccentric shoe collection, where she keeps her many awards and Sister Act.

Interviewer Kate Garraway asked Whoopi, as it’s been 25 years since the first Sister Act, that people want to know if there is going to be a third Sister Act movie.

Whoopi said she’d been “begging Disney” and that they had agreed to do a third but probably not with her reprising her very entertaining and much-loved role.

“We’ve been all over Disney begging and they’ve decided that they’re going to go in a different direction,” she told presenter Kate Garraway. “So it won’t be a ‘Sister Act 3,’ it will be a brand new rendition of ‘Sister Act.’ And I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it.”

The original 1992 comedy starred Goldberg as a Las Vegas club singer who joined a convent as part of a witness protection program. It  raked over $200 million worldwide while the sequel – starring a young Lauryn Hill – also fared well.
Kate responded with a sentiment we all share saying that she hoped Whoopi would be more than that.

Speaking on the movie last year to Entertainment Weekly, Goldberg also said that although she would love to play Deloris again, she would expect and understand a younger actress filling the role.

But at least this is good news for a Whoopi return, even if only a glimpse, and a come back for a much-loved family movie.
