Dolly Parton is perhaps one of the most well-known women in America and perhaps even throughout the world! Her music has been heard by millions and she is regarded as an absolute legend by all musicians in the business.
And while she is kind to everyone she meets, she has an ever-special bond with her God-daughter Miley Cyrus!
Miley Cyrus was perhaps one of the most popular child entertainers of her generation. Her Disney show Hannah Montana was a huge hit, and it made her a household name.
In the show, she has country music legend Dolly Parton plays the role of her Godmother. And the funny thing is, Parton is her Godmother in real life too! Having her as a Godmother made sense for Cyrus since her dad was close to the county music legend.
Parton opened up about how the special relationship came about, saying, “I worked with Billy Ray for all those years, when he had ‘Achy Breaky Heart,'” Dolly said. “He worked with me on some shows we did in the early days. He opened some of my shows. We just got to know each other. I wrote a song called ‘Romeo,’ and had him in a video. We just kind of gelled, ’cause we’re both country kids. We had a lot of fun just talking about that. And then when Miley came along, I said, ‘She’s got to be my fairy goddaughter.'”
The duo has a special relationship with one another and over the years Dolly has imparted advice to her God-daughter. But she says, she makes sure to ‘lead by example’ rather than just giving advice.
The duo has an incredibly special bond that has survived 30 years! On Wednesday, Miley Cyrus turned 30 years old! And of course, her Godmother made sure to commemorate the occasion with a sweet message.

She shared recent pictures the duo took together, and captioned it “Happy birthday @MileyCyrus! I can’t wait to celebrate with you and ring in the new year!!”
What Parton was referring to was the upcoming New Year’s Eve in Miami for the second installment of Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party which will air on NBC on New Year’s Eve.
To get fans excited about the upcoming event, Cyrus posted a teaser featuring her Godmother next to her. “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party is about getting glamorous and dressing your best,” Cyrus says in the teaser. “Well, we do that every day, don’t we Miley?” Parton responds. “You taught me well!” Cyrus concludes.
Cyrus is perhaps Parton’s biggest fan. When presenting an award to her in December 2020, she talked about what Dolly Parton means to her. “I’ve never met anyone that doesn’t like Dolly Parton. And it’s safe to say if they don’t like her, it’s only because they love her,” Cyrus said. “Dolly Parton has influenced music beyond her own genre.”
She went on to add the impact Parton has had in the music industry for women, saying, “Dolly has paved the way for other women songwriters, encouraging them to take ownership and get the credit that they deserve — an issue many women in the songwriting industry still struggle with today,” she continued. “When Elvis sought to record Dolly’s ‘I Will Always Love You,’ Dolly famously said no, keeping control of her song that Elvis wanted half of the publishing royalties to. Slay all day, Dolly.”
It is heartwarming to see the bond between these two women. It is always nice to see them supporting one another and sending each other love!
