Four stray dogs hailed as heroes after teacher finds them guarding baby dumped in bushes

Ulhas was making his way to the school in West Bengal, India when he made the shocking discovery, according to the Times of India.

A newborn baby girl had been abandoned and was being guarded by four stray dogs.

Officials said the girl was around seven days old and probably wouldn’t have survived if it hadn’t been for the dogs keeping her safe.

Gave her some milk

When Ulhas found the screaming baby, the dogs started wagging their tails, clearly pleased that help had arrived for their precious cargo.

Ulhas immediately raised the alarm and locals came rushing to help. One of his neighbors picked up the baby and gave her some milk.

“She stopped crying after that,” he told the Times of India.

After alerting police, Ulhas took the baby back to his home so he could meet officers there; surprisingly the dogs stayed with him until he reached the house.

Police took the baby to hospital where doctors said she was 7-10 days old and weighed just over 6 pounds.

‘Nothing to fear’

“Though she has signs of jaundice, she has nothing to fear,”  Dr. Shibshankar Mahato told the Times of India.

Ulhas named the baby Sania, meaning Saturday, the day she was found. After she is released from hospital she will be taken to an adoption center.

Ulhas credits these four stray dogs with saving this sweet baby’s life.

“Had it not been for the dogs, we would probably have lost the baby, we are all grateful to them,” he said.

This baby had some guardian angels watching over her. Dogs are such incredible creatures.
