Gary Sinise is donating 20,000 meals to Veterans Affairs’ health care and frontline workers battling the coronavirus pandemic

Hollywood star Gary Sinise is well known for the many ways in which he honors the U.S. military. The Oscar-nominated actor and author has long-since proven himself a remarkable man.

Not only is he an immeasurably talented actor, but he’s also a staunch supporter of our troops, often going out of his way to ensure those most in need are given help.

The Forrest Gump star established his own organization – dubbed ‘The Gary Sinise Foundation’ – and through that has been able to donate millions of dollars to soldiers, veterans, first responders, and their families.

Now, he’s also looking to help out during one of the worst crises in US history.

On Wednesday, the Veterans Affairs’ announced that Sinise is donating 20,000 meals to VA’s healthcare and frontline workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.

“Donations like this mean a lot to our VA staff as they are on the front lines of caring for our nation’s veterans every day,” VA Secretary Robert Wilkie said in a press release.

“We are very appreciative of this donation during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

It’s now up to the VA’s Voluntary Service to identify more than 80 VA medical facilities over the country – facilities that will receive the food in the coming weeks.

“The donated meals will come from restaurants near these facilities, stimulating local economies and helping communities,” Elizabeth Fields, Chief Operating Officer of the Gary Sinise Foundation, said.

“Up to 250 meals will be donated to each facility depending on size and need.”

This week COVID-19 passed the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths in the U.S – almost twice the number of Americans lost during the Vietnam War.

This isn’t the first time Gary Sinise has helped out during the pandemic.

In April, Sinise created the Gary Sinise Foundation Emergency COVID-19 Combat Service. Since then, he and the organization have been providing personal protective equipment and donating decontamination equipment.

“We developed a campaign to address COVID-19 called our Emergency COVID-19 Combat Service,” Sinise said, accordind to Fox.

“We’re supporting first responders, frontline workers, health care workers, gold star families, you name it. Everybody’s been impacted by having to stay home from work or go to work because they’re a first responder and they’re needed out there, so we’re trying to make a difference.”
