Girl, 15, kills herself two years after she was sold to sex traffickers

A 15-year-old girl has committed suicide two years after she was drugged and sold to sex traffickers.

Despite Letty Serrano’s family getting her back and safe, “We got her back damaged,” her grandmother said.

Now the family wants justice, according to ABC30 News.

At 13 years old Letty was a typical high school student. “She was a great girl,” Letty’s grandmother Cynthia Rivera said. “She was a good student and she loved her puppies.”

But a man Letty knew took advantage of her, abused her, drugged her and then sold her to sex traffickers.

According to Crime Online the predator took Letty from Marshall Middle School in North Houston, Texas. The family called the police and he was arrested but then released three days later.

On October 12, Letty took her own life while locked inside a bathroom. According to FOX 26 Houston, her father, Mariano Serrano, tried to save her but she was pronounced dead the same day.

Now, the family want to raise awareness and get justice for their daughter and other women who have experienced the same trauma.

Spreading across the nation

“It’s a very familiar story, unfortunately,” Micah Gamboa, executive director of Elijah Rising, a non-profit in Houston with a mission to end sex trafficking.

She told ABC News there are thousands of sex trafficking victims in Houston, and over 300,000 in Texas.

“Entire cities are becoming red light districts. It’s no longer just a centralized or isolated issue. It’s actually spreading across the nation,” she said.

If you or someone you may know is a victim of sex trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.

I hope the man responsible for grooming and abusing this innocent girl is held responsible for his actions. Such a waste of a young life.

Please share to raise awareness in the hope that more can be done to help these young girls who are subjected to this kind of trauma.
