Every day teachers are shaping young minds, being great roles models and going above and beyond the call of duty; they really are life’s heroes.
One perfect example is Sonya Romera who teaches in Albuquerque, New Mexico. When one TV celebrity hears about this amazing teacher she decides to do something special for Sonya, which leaves her and her students shocked.
Sonya starts off every day by asking her students if they need clothes to wear or food to eat. But that’s only the start of the incredible things she’s done for her school community.
TV star Ellen heard about the inspirational teacher and needed to have her on the show. But the heroic teacher thought she was just an audience member until Ellen invites Sonya to join her on stage.
Ellen asks her to tell everyone watching about the incredible things she’s done for her students.
She then learns that besides making sure that the children are fed and washed before class starts, using her own money to buy breakfast and toiletries for all the students, Sonya has gone as far as to take in needy students. She has taken in two foster children who were former students and has been caring for them as her own for the last six months.
A video that Ellen’s crew made of her students and co-workers thanking her was shown and after there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

It’s not often you get to see a real hero and this teacher is definitely heroic. The positive impact that she has had on so many children is immense.
