The man had tried to withdraw money but because his ID had expired he wasn’t allowed to.

It’s the bank’s policy not to issue money to those without a valid ID but the man had become very upset at this information and staff felt the need to call the police.

Officer’s work praised by thousands

According to bank staff, the man was “causing a disturbance” so Officer Josett had no choice but to intervene.

But instead of removing him from the situation he spent time with the elderly man to find out the exact issue and then took him to his local Department of Motor and Vehicles to help him renew his identification card. Then they returned to the bank to arrange for the man to withdraw his money.

The police department shared the incident on its Facebook page and it quickly went viral with more than 44,000 shares.

“This officer is a saint! All this Little Grampa wants is to keep his Independence. And the officer helped him in a dignified manner. Good Job Officer,” one person commented.

Officer Josett went above and beyond the call of duty.  He is a wonderful example of how to treat the elderly in our society.
