Marline was the ultimate animal lover, helping more than 30 dogs, as well as horses, by giving them a loving home. She had a particular soft spot for senior pooches who had difficulty finding new homes.
The animal hero was able to offer her animals a 10-acre property in Northern California to roam around and play on. But heartache struck her home when Marline unexpectedly died leaving her huge animal family in desperate need of homes.
Marline was much-loved in her community and had many friends who, after her death, started gathering the animals (some pictured below) and work to figure out a solution.
In many cases the 25 senior dogs that Marline had would have been considered “unadoptable” and euthanized at city shelters but thanks to animal rescue and adoption charity Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco hope and help was on hand.
Staff at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue knew Marline well because of her prolific rescue work and welcomed the senior dogs in with open arms — despite the dogs putting them well over capacity. They wanted to honor Marline’s memory as a super animal mom and do all they could to find her animals loving forever homes.
An adopt-a-thon pool party was organized in the Bay Area where suitable animal lovers would have the chance to adopt one of Marline’s animals free of charge thanks to the organization waiving adoption fees for screened adopters.
This story is a reminder to have a plan for your pets in the event that you’re suddenly unable to care for them. It also shows that many shelter pets are well looked after, adjusted animals that came from loving homes.
