Terrified Chihuahua shakes with fear at shelter – then WWII veteran changes everything

A beautiful love-at-first-sight story between a 90-year-old World War II veteran and a nervous Chihuahua became an instant internet hit in 2015. It would appear people are still touched by the sweet pair.

World War II vet Allen, from Dallas, was mourning the loss of his dog. He’d allowed himself to become depressed in his grief, so a few friends from the Meals on Wheels program decided to take him to the PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center.

On that particular day, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) was teaming up with the store to match people with shelter pets. Little did Allen know he was about to meet his perfect canine companion.

Three-year-old Coco was extremely nervous around people, and would constantly shake and shiver. But when she met Allen, her fear seemed to disappear instantly.

Today is the day folks!!! Come join the celebration for Dallas Animal Services Grand "Leash" Cutting at our Petsmart Everyday Adoption Center with $25 adoptions all weekend long!!! 16821 N. Coit Rd., Dallas Tx

“As soon as we put Coco in his lap, she stopped shaking,” DAS wrote on their Facebook page. “He didn’t even want to let her go long enough to do the paperwork.”

It transpired that they both needed each other, and seemed to recognize it the moment they met.

“It was an instant connection for both of them,” said Nicole Hernandez, manager of DAS. “She wouldn’t take her eyes off of him, and he wouldn’t stop smiling at her.”

Allen left the store that day with his new companion resting in his arms. One member of staff approved of their new bond, pleased that Coco would be protected at all times.

“Coco knows you can always trust a Vet to keep you safe,” the person wrote. “Just like he did for us many years ago. Thank-You Sir for serving.”

We wanted to get this posted yesterday for Veterans Day, but ran out of time. Nonetheless, it is an awesome story we…

Allen may be up there in age, but it would be heartbreaking for them both if they couldn’t be together. As a result, Allen’s friends are ready to step in should Coco need help.

The bond between animal and human is so strong it can sometimes heal a broken heart. This is clearly what’s happened here; these two were meant to be together! Please share this happy tale with your friends and family.
