It’s often said that love is blind and knows no bounds. That’s what this woman experienced after she recovered from an unspeakable trauma.
After her ex-boyfriend threw acid in her face, she was forced to endure several gruelling operations.
But just when all her hope seemed to be gone, her life changed forever.
Pramoudini Roul lives in New Delhi, India. Her name Rani means “queen” in Hindi.
When she was 15 years old she met and fell in love with a 28-year-old man. They became a couple and a few years later he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Her answer was no – which should have been the end of their shared history. But the man had other ideas.
Ran into her ex
One day when Rani was on her way home from school she ran into her ex-boyfriend who came driving towards her on a moped. He threw acid in her face as revenge for her rejecting his proposal – and Rani was taken to the hospital. There, she was forced to endure five operations, one of which was to bring back the sight in one of her eyes.
Rani was crushed. This man had destroyed her life. For the next four years she lived at home and was taken care of by her mom.
Because of her terrible injuries she once again had to return to the hospital. But it was there that her life would change forever. For the better.
One of the nurses had asked her friend to keep the patient company. This friend was a man named Saroj and he immediately felt a connection with Rani. During the next few weeks he visited her more and more – and eventually he was there every day.
He encouraged her and spread positive energy around her – he told her she should never stop believing that things would get better.
“I had already lost my eyesight and the thought of being bedridden was an added woe. But Saroj did not lose hope. He would encourage me everyday, motivating me to be positive and have hope,” Rani tells The Sun.
A love story
Rani and Saroj fell in love. She moved in with him and since then they have lived together in New Delhi and are currently planning their wedding.
“He loves me the way I am. He always encourages me to live life happily. I feel very lucky to have him. He is very understanding and is always there for me. It always feels good to be loved and be assured of having a partner who loves and recognises the goodness in you,” Rani says.
We don’t know what happened to Rani’s ex-boyfriend, but hopefully he got the punishment he deserves.
Rani is an incredible person who deserves to be loved the way Saroj loves her. There’s nothing that love can’t overcome, it’s the strongest force that we humans have.
