The British royal family have celebrated the 70th birthday of Prince Charles by releasing a candid family photograph of the heir to the throne surrounded by members of his immediate family.
As per CNN, Prince Charles described turning 70 as an “alarming realization that I have reached the biblical threshold of three score years and 10,” in a special edition of British magazine Country Life that he guest-edited.
Alarmed he may claim to be, though he looks anything but in the official photo released to mark the occasion.
In the image, the future king of England is seated beside wife Camilla Parker-Bowles and Princess Charlotte. Prince George, meanwhile is sitting on his lap. Behind him stand his sons Prince William and Prince Harry, along with their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle respectively.
The official portrait, shot in the gardens of Clarence House, London, back in September, show the family to be in good spirits.
Of course, citing his mood at turning 70 wasn’t the only thing talked about in the latest edition of Country Life. The king in waiting also described his love for red squirrels.
“They come into the house at Birkhall and we get them chasing each other round and round the inside,” he said, as per BBC News.
“Sometimes when I leave my jackets on a chair with nuts in the pockets, I see them with their tails sticking out, as they hunt for nuts – they are incredibly special creatures.”
He proceeded to explain how he likes to maintain as many bird baths as possible in the grounds of his home, often refilling them himself when he’s at home.

He may have endured his criticism over the years, but few can deny Prince Charles truly loves his country.
