The bond between a human and their dog goes far beyond what those who have never had a pet can understand.
Of course, money doesn’t come in to it. A dog will love you if you’re the poorest man on earth, just the same as they’ll love you if you’re the richest. They have no political allegiances, no favourite traits, no preference when it comes to look or smell.
It’s George H.W. Bush‘s service dog who’s stealing hearts the world over at the moment, having been photoed refusing to leave the former president’s casket earlier this week.
Well, his future’s now been decided in the wake of his master’s passing, and it turns out he’s got quite the commendable mission ahead …
It was on Sunday that Bush’s spokesman, Jim McGrath, shared an image of service dog Sully, one that went viral quickly. The photo was accompanied by the fitting caption: “Mission Complete”.

The dog was also set to remain with the Bush family throughout the funeral proceedings, before returning to America’s VetDogs in Smithtown, New York. There, he’ll stay for the holiday season, before being giving his new job serving wounded service members at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Facility Dog Program in Maryland.
In his new duties, Sully will work alongside SGT Dillon and SGT Truman, two other service dogs at the same facility. The dogs will help wounded soldiers and active service members undergoing therapy at the center.

As per PEOPLE, Sully will also work with soldiers who have had limbs amputated.
The service dog was given to former president Bush when he was 2-years-old, and proved a loyal companion until the very end.
Bush’s son, George Bush Junior, told earlier this week how the family were going to miss Sully, but were proud that he would go on to help others.
