Poverty and homelessness are often causes of child abandonment.
And sadly, about 150 babies in the United States are abandoned each year in creeks, along roadsides and in trash cans, according to child advocates.
But this woman in Houston, who dropped her child off at fire station overnight, said she wasn’t planning on leaving him there permanently.
The woman told firefighters she was worried about her child’s safety and that’s why she dropped him off.
According to ABC, police were at the fire station when the woman returned about an hour later.
The woman then told the officers that she had nowhere else to go, she said she and her son were turned away from a shelter.
She also told police she and her child had been living out of her vehicle.
Officers gave the boy back to his mother, then escorted her to a nearby CPS facility.
The Baby Moses law
The woman is not facing any criminal charges.
Texas’ Safe Haven Law, also known as the Baby Moses law, provides that a person can leave a baby at a hospital or a fire station if the child is no more than 60 days old without being charged.
This includes a hospital, fire station, free-standing emergency centers or emergency medical services (EMS) station.
”If you have a newborn that you’re unable to care for, you can bring your baby to a designated safe place with no questions asked. The Safe Haven law, also known as the Baby Moses law, gives parents who are unable to care for their child a safe and legal choice to leave their infant with an employee at a designated safe place”, The Baby Moses Law states.

Love that nobody is bashing her for making this extremely difficult decision.
Although it is a sad situation, we haven’t been in her shoes and we are nobody to judge her. I hope this child gets placed in a loving home while she gets the help she needs.
