This year marks 20 years since Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident in Paris. Princes William and Harry and the rest of the royal family have shared many memories of Diana with the public in the years since her death.
The sons have made several public appearances to commemorate the memory of their mother during the years, and as we approach the end of 2017, it seems that they saved the best for last!
It’s now known that Diana will receive a statue in her memory, commissioned by William and Harry. The artist is the same sculptor who created Queen Elizabeth’s image on British coins, Ian Rank-Broadley. The statue is planned to be unveiled outside of Kensington Palace in London next year.
On Sunday, William and Harry told the world that they had picked out a design and sculptor for Diana’s statue.
“The statue, which will be erected in the grounds of Kensington Palace, will celebrate the late Princess’s life and legacy. It is expected to be unveiled in 2019,” Palace officials wrote on Twitter.
The same creator who created the British coins with Queen Elizabeth is commissioned to make the statue of Diana.
“Ian is an extremely gifted sculptor and we know that he will create a fitting and lasting tribute to our mother,” Princes William and Harry said in a statement.
