The coronavirus continues to spread around the world.
Globally, so far more than 80,000 people have been diagnosed with the illness.
Now, a pet dog of a coronavirus patient in Hong Kong has been found to have a “low level” of the virus, the city’s government said Friday.
According to New York Times, the authorities found remnants of the virus in the dog – but experts said that further tests were needed to confirm if the animal had actually contracted the virus.
The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak is an ongoing epidemic – the respiratory infection has claimed nearly 3,000 lives so far worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) have declared it a global emergency.
Much still remains unclear concerning the virus that’s spreading around the world, with new information coming to light everyday.
The aforementioned dog has not yet shown any relevant symptoms, so experts need to investigate further if the canine has really been infected by the illness.
”At present, the AFCD does not have evidence that pet animals can be infected with COVID-19 virus or can be a source of infection to people”, The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said in a statement.
One professor from the University of Hong Kong said the result could indicate that the dog “licked a contaminated surface and the virus was picked up as contamination, not infection.”
