A desperate wife has sent out a plea for blood donors to help her husband who is in a coma after testing positive for COVID-19.
Karen Vaughn has put out a plea on Facebook specifically for those with type ‘O’ blood to donate and help save her husband.
Steve Vaughn was admitted to hospital near their Alabama home and was placed on a ventilator but his condition worsened.
He was then flown to a hospital in Florida so he could be put on a Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to help support his breathing.
Karen posted an appeal on Facebook writing: “PLEASE HELP !!!!!!! PLEASE SHARE!
“I need Blood donors that have type O blood to help save my husband Steve Vaughn.
“We can only use your blood or plasma if you tested positive for COVID-19 and are 14 days past the date you were notified you were positive.”
Those that have recovered from the virus mat be able to help those fighting COVID-19 by donating their convalescent plasma — the part of the blood that contains antibodies.
Doctors hope that giving these antibodies to a newly sick person, who may not have antibodies yet, could help them recover.
Steve is in a coma and was recently put on kidney dialysis, according to WKRG’s News 5.
“Every mid-day and night, I Facetime my husband and tell him how much I love him. I know he can’t hear my voice, but I have faith that God will carry us through this,” said Karen, as per WKRG’s News 5.
