Salon owner to open this week despite stay-at-home orders – already has 3 weeks booked up

A store owner in Salem, Oregon is preparing to re-open her shop despite a stay-at-home order prohibiting non-essential businesses during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As per reports, Lindsey Graham, owner of Glamour Salon in Salem, plans to do five appointments a day starting on Tuesday this week. The hairdresser claims she’s been booked out for the next three weeks.

“Since that order, we have no income coming into our house. We have yet to receive a government loan refunding,” she said. “We received one $600 check for unemployment. I received no unemployment.”

Oregon’s Governor Brown has yet to give the green light for salons to re-open in the state, but Lindsey said she needs a way to provide for her family.

“I’m terrified. I’m absolutely terrified. I’m terrified that I’m doing this interview and that means on Tuesday I do need to open. I need to stand by my word and now that it’s public it’s even more terrifying,” she said.

She went on to explain that stylists will be working in individual rooms and only accepting one client at a time. They’ll be sanitizing the stations and tools between customers, while also offering masks to people who want them.

“I’m not making any kind of political stand and I’m not anti-government. I’m not trying to create a riot or an uprising or a revolution. I just need to make money for my family,” Lindsey said.

She encouraged clients at high-risk of having serious issues if they catch COVID-19 to stay at home, stating that her business will be operating at a third of its usual capacity.

Oregon State Police, meanwhile, have said that anyone violating current orders can be arrested or cited with a Class C Misdemeanor.

I’m not sure how I feel about Lindsey’s plan. I understand the need for her to provide for her family, but at the same time going against state regulations and rules isn’t a good idea. Not to mention the fact she could be endangering customers.
