A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the ambush attack of two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Authorities announced the arrest and charges during a press conference Wednesday, according to CBS Los Angeles.
L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey reported that Deonte Lee Murray, 36, had been charged with two counts each of premeditated attempted murder of a peace officer and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $6.15 million. If convicted, Murrary would face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
At this time, investigators do not have a motive for the shooting.
Although Homicide Bureau Captain Kent Wegener said, “other than the fact that he obviously hates policemen and wants them dead, not specifically.”
Three days after the deputies were shot Murrary was arrested for an unrelated carjacking and shooting. According to reports, forensic evidence linked him to the ambush.
The 36-year-old also faces several charges related to the carjacking and shooting which occurred earlier this month.
Both deputies, who were shot on September 12 in Compton, have since been released from the hospital.
