Ice skater dances to Riverdance: Seconds later the crowd goes crazy when the music changes tempo

I have never been the biggest sports fan and would rather do anything else than sit down and watch a game.

But there are a few sports that even I can enjoy and one of them is figure skating.

Watching both men and women dancing on ice in time to a beautiful a piece of music is the kind of performance that really enchants and often times moves me. This along with their beautiful outfits makes for such pleasurable viewing.

Right now, the Winter Olympics are taking place in South Korea where athletes from all over the world are competing for gold. So many different sports are being played out, some familiar, some obscure, while millions of viewers around the world are cheering on their home team.

For me ice skating has it all; the clothes, the music and, of course, the graceful dancing. It really is a pleasure to watch. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen was in 2014, when the then 19-year-old figure skater Jason Brown performed a unique routine inspired by the theatrical show Riverdance, which has toured the world with its traditional Irish music and dance.

The performance secured Jason a silver medal at the U.S. Championships and a spot on the U.S. Olympic Skating team in Sochi where he earned a bronze medal with the American figure skaters in the team event, and finished ninth individually.
Unfortunately, he did not get a place in the team this year but remains the first alternate. Jason is really a passionate figure skater and it’s great to see him on the ice.

When the music choice “Reel Around The Sun,” was initially suggested to him Jason said in an interview that he’d never even heard of Riverdance and was initially intimidated by the music’s quick tempo.

He told his long term choreographer Rohen Ward:  “I was like, ‘Rohene, you are crazy, I cannot pull this off.’ ”

Take a look at how well Jason does pull this dance off from his 2014 contribution below:
