In October 2015, the first cargo ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) set off on its maiden voyage.
At the launch, a small crowd of photographers gathered to document the event, which also was captured on film from the air.
The ship was called the “Greenland.” It was manufactured in the Netherlands for a company called JT Cement. And after its launch, the Greenland’s first commercial journey embarked for Rostock, Germany.
To get the Greenland in the water, two tugboats have to pull it down in the water.
The tugboats look comically small next to the gigantic ship, and at first, it doesn’t look like they’ll be able to move it at all.
But after a while, the Greenland finally begins to move, and slides slowly toward the water.
It looks dangerous, and for a second there, it even looks like it’s going to capsize. Luckily though, the massive ship soon rights itself.
The plunge then causes the huge ship to do something that I’m not sure everyone fully anticipated.
