Sometimes it seems like young people don’t appreciate their elders and all that they’ve sacrificed to make the world a better place for us.
But there are some people out who are kind enough to show their appreciation and find surprising ways to show it.
Like the kind stranger who brought a tear to the eye of an 88-year-old veteran named Bob Bradshaw.
Bob Bradshaw is 88 years old. He lives in Omaha, Nebraska now, but when he was a much younger man, he served the United States of America for 14 years in Korea and Vietnam. By the time Bob retired after 30 years of service, he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Bob takes pride in his service, as he should, and he proudly displays “disabled American veteran” license plates on his car, along with a bronze star decal.
One January day, Bob parked his car outside of his dentist’s office while he went in for an appointment.
But when he came out, Bob noticed something on his car: there was a white envelope tucked under the one of the windshield wipers.
Bob opened the envelope and was stunned to find a $20 bill and a note.
The note read: “Thank you so much for your service to our country. I appreciate all you have contributed to make the USA great. Please enjoy a meal on me. I know it isn’t much but I hope it helps you out! A friend.”
The kind gesture hit Bob hard and gave him hope for the future.
“There’s a lot of good people out there,” Bradshaw says in the video below, before he breaks down and wells up with tears.
Bob says that receiving the anonymous envelope was a humbling experience. It’s wonder that someone took the time to show their appreciation for his brave sacrifice for the country all those years ago.
Now Bob has two messages he’d like to share: The first is a thank you to whoever left the note for him. And the second is his hope that his comrades in arms are also appreciated like this.
