Beaten and starved dog taken in by family – just days later he risks his own life for a toddler

It always amazes me when an abused dog finds a new loving home and is still a sweet, gentle creature. No matter what has happened to that dog, his spirit wasn’t broken.

In the case of Khan the Doberman dog, vets had thought about putting him down, he was so beaten up. Then a family stepped forward to take him in.

Despite his size and his history, his new family never thought he was any danger to their young daughter.

But one day mom Catherine Svilicic was terrified when she saw Khan become aggressive around her toddler daughter.

Catherine Svillcic was in the family garden enjoying time with her 17-month-old daughter.

The family had recently welcomed a new pet into their home Khan, a Doberman dog, who had been rescued from terrible conditions.

‘He was in such a bad way’

When animal hero Kerry Kinder, owner of Doberinling Boarding Kennels, in Australia, had rescued him, he was starving, had broken ribs and had been beaten.

“It was borderline on whether or not he should be put down because he was in such a bad way,” a Facebook post about Khan read.

It was four days after Catherine had taken Khan home that the shocking event happened.

“Khan was really concentrating and was acting aggressive towards Charlotte and kept trying to nudge her but it wasn’t working, so he grabbed her by the back of the nappy and threw her more than a metre (39 inches),” Cathering said according to local newspaper Adelaide Now

Mom Catherine didn’t understand why Khan was behaving so aggressively toward her toddler and then heard Khan scream.

“I realised quickly it was a snake and Khan had been trying to get in between her and the snake before he threw her” Catherine said.

Instead of the child being bitten by the deadly brown snake, Khan got in the way and he was bitten.

‘Given a shot of anti-venom’

“After being bitten, Khan ran inside and collapsed. He was given a shot of anti-venom by a vet and had a tough night …but managed to survive and eat a large breakfast (the next day),” according to Adelaide Now.

Although Khan had only been with his new family for four days, he was prepared to risk his life to protect little Charlotte. What a hero!

Dogs are such incredible animals and it’s such a privilege to own such a loyal pet. Please share if you agree.
