Calling all cat lovers: Job vacancy for a cat sanctuary caretaker on a beautiful Greek island

You may have fallen in love with the beauty of Greece either on vacation or by watching the Mamma Mia movies. This stunning setting and simple way of life is a major attraction for tourists who often tour these idyllic islands.

But, for those of you who dream of living in such a place, I think I may have found the perfect opportunity for you.

A job offer was posted on social media calling all cat lovers to apply for a position at a cat sanctuary on the beautiful Greek island of Syros.

Syros is located just off the coast with a population of around 20,000 people. It’s full of beautiful neo-classical buildings, old mansions, and white houses which line the route down the harbor.

God’s Little People Cat Rescue is based there and provides a home for over 60 rescued cats as well as feeding strays and offering neutering and spaying services.

The lady that runs the center Joan advertised for a live in caretaker who is able to commit at least six months to this position.

Joan said all applicants needed to have “a heart of gold” and give “heaps of love and attention” to the cats. She added: “You’ll never feel lonely in the company of the cats and you’ll be expected to live with a small handful of cats in your house.”

It seems to good to be true for a cat lover: getting paid to live on a stunning Greek island and looking after lots of cats.

Danish cat lover Joan Bowell has been running the cat sanctuary since 2010 with her husband but needs someone to take over in her absence.

The job in this “small paradise no less” offers free accommodation in a “semidetached modern tiny house” with views over the Aegean Sea and pays the equivalent of $560 US per month.

Cat lover

To be eligible for this dream existence, first and foremost you have to be a cat lover. You also need to be able to feed and medicate them when required, though the hours are described as part-time.

Oh and did I mention water and electricity is included?
