Jamie Lee Curtis speaks out against unrealistic beauty standards and offers advice on aging

Just take a quick look at your local pharmacy and you’ll see plenty of products that promote anti-aging. The same goes for commercials on TV.

We live in a time where looking youthful is desired, and showing your age – wrinkles, gray hair, and everything else associated with growing old – is something that needs to be fixed.

While many celebrities promote this look, at least one has been an outspoken critic, even after she fell victim and went under the knife.

“Don’t mess with your face,” Jamie Lee Curtis tells not only her daughters, but all women.

The Halloween franchise actress hasn’t always been pro-aging.

“I did plastic surgery,” Curtis, 63, recently told TODAY. “I put Botox in my head. Does Botox make the big wrinkle go away? Yes. But then you look like a plastic figurine.”

“The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty,” she told Fast Company in 2021.

Not only do you run the risk of looking like a “plastic figurine,” but post-op could bring up its own issues.

After undergoing a procedure, Curtis was prescribed Vicodin. She became addicted to the pain medicine.

“I tried plastic surgery and it didn’t work. It got me addicted to Vicodin. I’m 22 years sober now.”

“All of these ‘bettering’ experiences are not without risk. And there is this illusion that once you do it, then you’ll be fine. And that’s just horses**t. I looked worse,” she said in a 2002 interview with The Telegraph.

“It’s such a fraud. And I’m the one perpetuating it.”

“Once you mess with your face, you can’t get it back.”

We need more celebrities to stand up against the harsh beauty standards we set for ourselves and denounce the need to look youthful. Aging is perfectly natural.
