Women in the spotlight are under constant pressure to stay youthful with many complaining that there aren’t many movie roles for the more mature woman.
But when we see a Hollywood actress growing old gracefully, we have to celebrate her as she’s an example to us all that it’s okay to get old.
Jamie Lee Curtis is an actress that has struggled to maintain Hollywood’s beauty expectations and has paid the price. Now, she’s decided to turn her back on it all and be true to her natural self — and the reason is tough to hear.

#tbt to what seemed to be an easier time. Before I really had a mind, knew what I wanted, needed, cared about. My first headshot. Hated my "different" name so chose my middle one. Nothing came from it. Perhaps some need to be seen, feeling as most middle/high school students feel, unseen and paling in comparison. Happy today to know what I want and don't want and that I have a voice and idea and I can express it. #democratforlife
The American actress, producer, director, author and activist, didn’t think anything of the nip and tuck to help keep her looking young, but it wasn’t until she became addicted to the doctor-prescribed painkillers that she began to realize the mistake she had made.
“I’ve done it all. I’ve had a little plastic surgery. I’ve had a little lipo. I’ve had a little Botox. And you know what? None of it works. None of it,” the 59-year-old said in a 2002 interview with Telegraph UK.
Those around her in the industry were not helping her self-esteem in her younger days and Curtis recalled the moment when a cameraman complained that she was “puffy” around the eyes.
“Ten years ago, before anybody did that, I had fat taken from underneath my eyes because I was on a movie and I was puffy,” she said. “I remember the cameraman saying: ‘I can’t shoot her now’. I remember being mortified.”
The pressure of it all led her to drink more alcohol and before she knew it she was abusing alcohol on top of pills.
When she realized the damage she was doing to herself and to her daughters she voluntarily checked herself into rehab.
“I’m trying hard to take the veil off the fraud, to be real, to start with me. In the recovery program I’m in (for addiction problems), they talk about peeling an onion, exposing more layers.”
Now the Hollywood beauty doesn’t do plastic surgery, dye her hair or wear heels.
”All of these ‘bettering’ experiences are not without risk,” the actress said.
“And there is this illusion that once you do it, then you’ll be fine. And that’s just horseshit. I looked worse.”
The Freaky Friday actress makes sure she stays in shape and is healthy and I think she looks beautiful and amazing for her age!
””I’m going to look the way God intends me to look . . . with a little help from Manolo Blahnik,” she said.
The former scream queen has been using her experience as a volunteer counselor for anti-drug campaigns to help those struggling with addictions.
