Known as much for his acts of kindness as his blockbuster movies, it seems Keanu Reeves cannot help himself when it comes to a needy cause.
The Hollywood heartthrob is one of the most bankable stars but frequently makes headlines for his random and generous acts of kindness, all done in the most modest of ways.
From humble beginnings, growing up without a father figure and moving around a lot, attending four different high schools, Reeves has grown into a global phenomenon. Known for major roles in The Matrix series and, more recently, John Wick, he’s known throughout the world.
But despite all this he doesn’t live in a mansion and doesn’t get driven around; he’s been spotted on numerous occasions riding the subway and one occasion standing up to allow a woman to sit down, an act not commonly witnessed on the New York subway, especially not one involving a Hollywood star.
Not only has he remained down-to-earth despite his fame and fortune, in 2018 it was revealed Reeves has been running a private foundation for over half a decade, one that helps aid children’s hospitals and cancer research.
“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research,” he told Ladies Home Journal. “I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”
Reeves’ sister Kim had battled leukemia for more than a decade, so the Matrix star knows all about the pain and heartache people afflicted with this brutal disease suffer.
In 2019, the 57-year-old was on a plane which was forced to make an emergency landing in Bakersfield, California, 100 miles away from their intended location.
After announcements that passengers would complete their trip on a bus, Reeves could be seen discussing the logistics of the trip and waiting for his luggage with other passengers at the Bakersfield airport.
He then boarded the van with other passengers, reading facts about their destination and playing country music from his phone before ending up in a fast food restaurant where he took pictures with fans.
Now in another airport drama he has been praised by two siblings for his generosity in helping them out of a tricky situation.
More recently, an Instagram post was shared featuring the Speed star with two people. Lucas Santos shared a story of how Reeves helped him and his sister unexpectedly.
He wrote: “So I was at the airport with my sister and we had excess baggage charges but we didn’t have enough money to pay for it, luckily though Keanu Reeves was on the same board as us and ended up paying for everything.”
Is there no end to this man’s generosity and good heart? He is a shining example of how stars should behave, sharing his fortune with worthy causes and needy people.
