11-year-old missing since January pronounced dead – stepmother arrested on murder charge

Gannon Stauch, the 11-year-old boy missing from his home in Colorado Springs since January, has been pronounced dead, according to reports.

Bill Elder, El Paso County Sheriff, announced at a press conference on Monday that the boy’s stepmother, Leticia Stauch, was arrested yesterday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on four charges including murder in the first degree.

As per reports, she will also face charges of child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a deceased body and tampering with evidence. Stauch is being held in South Carolina without bond until she can be extradited back to Colorado Springs.

11-year-old Gannon was first reported missing on January 27 after his mother, Landen Hiot, told police he left home and hadn’t returned. She spoke to reporters on Monday and said she “got the worst news and the best news.”

“Obviously we know what the worst news is, but the best news is that justice will be served,” she said, “and I’ll make sure that justice is served because my boy did not deserve any of this that has happened to him.”

Investigators have not yet provided details as to what led to Monday’s development and an arrest affidavit in the case is sealed.

Rest in peace, Gannon, we hope you’re in a better place now.
