91-year-old goes trick-or-treating for the first time

Christine, of Zion, Michigan, liked to keep a close watch on her mom but on the Saturday before Halloween she noticed her mom was a bit down.

“She always talks about seeing her grandkids and her great-grandkids, so when I spoke to her Sunday morning and she sounded down, I thought, you know what, we’re going to go visit. It’s Halloween, it’s trick or treating, we’re going to go see the grandkids,” Christine said, according to Liftable.

“I said ‘All right mom get up, get dressed, I’m coming over to get you.”

Though Mary’s family was so familiar with this U.S. tradition, Mary or “Baba,” as she was known to her family, had emigrated to the U.S. from Croatia in the 1940s so despite ensuring her family had always enjoyed it, she had not participated as an adult.

Mary, who has four children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, put on a pair of rabbit ears and went visiting all of her family but instead of saying trick-or-treat, she ended up giving them all gifts!

It took her a few attempts before she actually said trick-or-treat but when she finally got it it lifted her spirits and getting to see all of her family put the biggest smile on her face.
