When officers arrived at the scene in Brighton, Colorado, they found a family in a serious condition. The dad sadly passed away and a mother and child had to be airlifted to hospital.

A 2-year-old girl was rescued from the overturned car, apparently uninjured, but covered in gasoline.

Police officer Nick Struck, who was part of the rescue operation, took the toddler in his arms and started to walk away from the horrific scene.

Started singing to the little girl

The officer said that he also has a 2-year-old daughter so started to sing, just as he sings to comfort his own child.

“My daughter, when she falls down and hurts herself, I sing ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’…So I started singing it to the little girl,” he told  9NEWS.

His singing helped to calm the frightened child and an image of the two together immediately went viral.
