Keeping schools safe allows children to look forward to being in an encouraging environment that promotes social and creative learning.
This is all common sense, especially to educators. They have known for decades that students need to be in safe, supportive learning environments to thrive.
From what I know, people become teachers to teach, to inspire, and to mold young minds.
But unfortunately, there are a few teachers who abuse students. Some get way out of hand when dispensing ‘justice’ and punishments.
In 2016, parents were are outraged after a teacher at Cool Spring Primary School in King William, VA, allegedly forced second graders to stick their heads in a bucket of urine.
One second-grade reportedly made the male students in her care put their heads in a bucket of urine.
After that, the boys had to sniff and then tell her who had peed in the bucket. Apparently, someone had peed in the bucket. According to the teacher, this was the only way the teacher figured she could find the culprit.
Parent Shawn Martin says he will never forget the evening his son came home from school complaining that he had bad day.
“And I said you’re an 8-year-old in the second grade,” said Martin. “How bad could your day have really been?”
Thats when he told his dad what happened.
Martin is outraged by the teachers alleged response.
“She made every male student smell the urine in the bucket,” said Martin.
“Stick their head in the bucket, smell the urine, and give their opinion from the smell of the urine which child urinated in the bucket.”
Students were all sent home with a note saying they may have been exposed to bodily fluids. According to the parents, the instructor had been teaching for 26 years.
School leaders confirmed for NBC that the teacher is still on the job.
“This is a personnel matter,” said school leaders in a statement. “Appropriate action has been taken to ensure that such conduct does not repeat itself. We will have no further comment.”
But Shawn Martin was not pleased with the response.
“I don’t think anything is appropriate. That lady was in there teaching my son today,” said Martin. “I don’t understand how the administration lets her come back and direct those kids.”
He filed a formal complaint citing “unprofessional conduct.”
“They want to sweep it under the rug like it never happened,” said Martin. “That is not acceptable.”
Dad said the school gave him the option of moving his son to another class, but dad he felt that would be punishing the wrong person.
So, it remains unclear if the teacher will receive any sort of reprimand for humiliating the students.
