A father of three is fighting for his life after he was diagnosed with lipoid pneumonia, a condition that left him struggling to breathe.
Sean Bills, a 31-year-old from West Valley City in Utah, was put in a medically induced coma on August 17, according to KTLA News.
His wife, Tiffani Bills, said doctors told her they believed Sean’s condition was due to vaping.
According to the Washington Post as of September 6 there are 450 U.S. cases of potentially vaping-related illness in 33 states and one territory.
“It hit out of nowhere, that’s for sure,” Sean’s wife Tiffani said. “My husband is at the hospital right now in critical condition because of vaping.”
Sean and Tiffani vaped daily for two years but at the beginning of August Sean started to experience some health issues.
“It started with shortness of breath and pain and not being able to breathe. That’s why he’s in a coma right now is because he can’t breathe on his own,” Tiffani said.
‘Stop right now’
She said her husband has lipoid pneumonia, and could be in a coma for up to 21 days, according to a GoFundMe appeal.
The symptoms of the disease include coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting.
Tiffani said she stopped vaping when her husband was admitted to hospital and has a warning for any other vapers out there.
“Stop,” she said. “Stop right now before it gets worse. I mean, it’s not worth your life.”
Vaping is proving to be one dangerous habit right now. We hope Sean recovers very soon.
