It was a sunny and wonderful day when World War II veteran Bill Greenham went to his local Walmart in Florida to buy some groceries.
But suddenly, when the 89-year-old was on his way home, his bags broke and all his items spilled all over the concrete out in front of the store.
Bill relies on a walking stick and is unsteady on his feet, it was clear for all onlookers that he needed help picking up his belongings…
But would anyone come to the elderly man’s aid?
When Bill needed help, Melissa Whittington didn’t blink an eye. She and her son Philip dropped everything and came to his aid.
She stopped to help pick up Bill’s items and ask if he was OK.
But she was blown away by what happened next.
Melissa and Phillip had no idea that while Bill is indeed a veteran and also a volunteer planted in front of the store by the North Port Police Department.
The officers were watching the scene from their squad car and had rigged the parking lot with cameras and microphones.
They overheard Melissa telling another bystander that it had recently been Phillip’s birthday.
“I want to do something for you,” said Bill as Melissa helped him.
“I am just glad you are OK,” Melissa replied.
“What would you like for the little boy?” Bill asked.
“Today is his birthday,” she responded.
Melissa opened up to World War II veteran Bill Greenham. She told him it has been a rough year for her family.
Times were hard for her family and Melissa weren’t able to get any presents for the deserving little boy. This happened during Christmas time, so buying gifts was incredibly difficult to manage for Melissa and her family.
As they chatted, Bill asked her to wait. His hidden elves were busy working to help…
Soon, the officers revealed the true reason for all the hidden cameras and you do not want to miss this incredible gesture of kindness.
