When Eileen Corey visited her regular hairdresser, she not only got a new haircut.
As her hairdresser worked on her, she discovered something that may also have saved her life.

For many years, Eileen worked as a health correspondent for the WKYC TV channel in Cleveland, USA.
But even health experts can get sick – and for Eileen, things could have ended up significantly worse if it were not for her hairdresser.
Eileen has been cutting her hair with stylist Kari Phillips for the past 15 years.
“This doesn’t look right”
Naturally, the two women gradually developed a friendship over time, so when Kari noticed something strange during one of her client’s visits, she didn’t hesitate to tell her.
She noticed a large spot on Eileen’ scalp, which hadn’t been there the month before.
“We can see pretty much the whole entire scalp,” Kari told WKYC Channel 3. “It doesn’t look right, I don’t remember seeing it. And I want you obviously to go to your dermatologist and look at it,” she told Eileen.
Life-saving advice
Eileen took her hairdresser’s advice and visited a specialist — and it’s a good thing she did. The doctor immediately ordered a biopsy, and sure enough, it was discovered that Eileen had melanoma.
“I would not have seen this. I would not have felt it, because it wasn’t raised. There was nothing to see,” she told WKYC Channel 3.
Thanks to her hairdresser, the melanoma was detected early and was still at skin level. It was therefore removed without the need for further treatment.
Eileen says she is forever grateful to her hairdresser’s watchful eye, and that she is now always protecting herself from the sun — a tip that we should all apply!
