It may sound strange putting a squeezed lemon in the dishwasher instead of throwing it in the trash.
But when I heard the reason behind this trick, I couldn’t help but share it. This is such a cheap, simple and effective trick, everyone should be doing it.
We throw far too much food away. In the U.S. the amount is staggering.
According to a recent article, 50 per cent of all produce in the U.S, is thrown away. That really is shocking.
There are always recipes that use up a lot of produce that we can turn to if we have extras in our fridge. And now I’ve discovered a great use for discarded lemons.
Instead of squeezing them and throwing them away, use them in your dishwasher to work wonders with your dirty plates and cutlery.
Like vinegar and baking soda, lemon is an effective and environmentally friendly alternative when it comes to cleaning.
All you need is half a lemon. You can put it in the cutlery basket of your dishwasher or the upper shelf along with your dirty dishes.
Then turn it on as usual and you’ll be amazed by the results.

Lemon juice is one of the best natural cleaners due to its low pH and antibacterial properties. Not only does it clean your dishes but gives them a lovely fresh-smelling scent.
How smart is this?
